For a young family returning from living overseas for many years, the idea of renovating their tired beachside house into the perfect family home filled them with anticipation and the sense of embarking on another new adventure.

The mission was to turn a one level, original brick house into a three-level family home, cut into the sloping block, and ensure the backyard connected with the house.

The entrance is now the mid level of the home and leads you from the street to a gorgeous and inviting double height foyer. Featuring a timber ceiling and burnt charred timber wall cladding, blending the inside and out. Guests are then greeted by a bespoke sculpted staircase, built onsite by our expert team of carpenters and renderers.

Double storey glazed walls flood the area with light and native plants to again blur the lines between inside and out. The living area to the rear is open plan with a soft timber palette giving a warm inviting feel. Three bedrooms to the front again reflect a sense of calm, repeating the warm timber palette and adding marble for a feeling of luxury.

Heading upstairs you pass a wall made from recycled bricks, once part of an original section of the house. Two work spaces and storage occupy the top level where glazing again floods these areas with light and airflow.

On the lower level, the house boasts a private teenagers retreat, laundry and bathroom.

The backyard now works beautifully with the house and is reflective of the surrounding natural environment, with native plants, a swimming pool and deck to enjoy in the warmer months; and a firepit for cool evening soirees in the winter time.

This is a magnificent house where detailed design and innovative architecture are on display, cut through with a warm palette of colour and materials. It is a genuine family home of pure style and will bring years of joy to the lucky owners.
