Danger Island House is a remote island build located on Danger Island in the Hawkesbury River. Completed in five months, the project required careful planning and coordination, with all materials transported to the island by barge and no vehicle access available on site.

The house was built using a prototype steel portal frame system designed by architect Sue Harper. As the first build of this design, many decisions were resolved on site in close consultation with the architect and owner.

Despite the logistical complexity, the project was completed to a high standard within a tight timeframe. The result is a distinctive island residence that has become a recognised home within its setting.

The project received the HIA Best Use of Steel Award and was a finalist in the Wilkinson Architectural Award.
