Heritage Craft and Contemporary Addition: Newtown Terrace

Living room at Newtown Terrace — 2017, where restored heritage detailing meets expressive interior layers, including a hand-painted mural that brings depth and character to the historic space.

Our Newtown Terrace — 2017 project was recently featured in a publication exploring the careful restoration and transformation of a historic inner-west residence.

Originally a grand but deteriorating terrace, the project required a thoughtful approach to both preservation and intervention. Working in collaboration with Daniel Boddam Architects and Stacey Kouros Design, the build focused on restoring the character of the original home while introducing a contemporary architectural layer to the rear.

Traditional trades played a key role in the project, restoring ornate plasterwork, ceiling roses and the original staircase. Alongside this heritage restoration, the contemporary extension introduces a restrained palette of concrete, glass and timber designed to sit quietly alongside the historic fabric of the house.

The result is a home where heritage craftsmanship and contemporary living are carefully balanced, allowing the character of the original terrace to remain central to the experience of the house.
