Crowning Glory: The Restoration of a Historic Newtown Terrace
Inside the restored Newtown Terrace, heritage detailing and expressive interior layers create a composed and character-rich living space framed by natural light.
We are pleased to share a recent feature on our Newtown Terrace project, a careful restoration that brings renewed life to a historic inner-west residence while introducing a finely considered contemporary addition.
Originally a grand but deteriorating terrace, the project required a thoughtful approach to both preservation and transformation. Working in collaboration with Daniel Boddam Architects and Stacey Kouros Design, the build focused on restoring the character of the original home while introducing a contemporary architectural layer at the rear.
Traditional trades were engaged to repair and restore key heritage elements including ornate cornices, ceiling roses and the original staircase. Alongside this work, the new extension introduces a restrained palette of concrete, timber and glass, designed to sit quietly alongside the historic fabric of the house.
The project also introduces a rooftop garden, creating a private green retreat above the dense urban fabric of Newtown.
Project Highlights
Heritage Restoration: Traditional trades were engaged to restore ornate cornices, ceiling roses, and the original staircase to their former glory.
Modern Integration: The contemporary addition features a clean material palette of concrete, glass, and timber, designed to complement rather than compete with the heritage elements.
The "Crowning Glory": A signature feature of the home is the lush rooftop garden, providing a private green sanctuary in the heart of the inner west.
Disciplined Craftsmanship: The project was a finalist in the HIA CSR NSW Housing Awards, recognizing the technical precision and collaborative effort between the owners, architects, and our site team.
